Srinagar, December 27: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Srinagar & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
During patrolling by team of Police Station Bemina on link road between Bemina and Ibrahim Colony, a vehicle bearing registration number MH02ER/9763 (Etios) parked under suspicious circumstances by the road side was noticed. Upon approaching the vehicle, two persons on board attempted to flee, but were apprehended tactfully by the police team. During search, 7.10gms of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession. The two persons disclosed their identity as Syed Athar Rafi son of Syed Rafi Ahmed resident of Dehraman Soibugh Badgam A/P Usmania Colony Bemina and Waseem Ahmed Rather son of Mohd Ashraf Rather resident of Hamdaniya colony Bemina.
In this connection, a case FIR No 81/24 under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Bemina and investigation has been taken up. Both the accused persons have been arrested and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Meanwhile, In Kulgam a police party of Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass-NHW intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag. During search, 4 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in the said bag was recovered. He has been identified as Raj Kumar son of Meer Chand resident of Batote Ramban and was subsequently arrested on the spot. Accordingly, a case vide FIR no 109/2024 under section 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Qaimoh and investigation has been taken up.
