Police arrests 02 drug peddlers in Srinagar & Kulgam

February 25: Tightening noose against the drug smugglers/peddlers, Police in Srinagar & Kulgam have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

Srinagar Police along with team of CKR office has arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession. A Police team headed by SHO PS Shalteng, during surprise naka established at Narbal Sozieth Bund intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number CH01M-9496, who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by alert police party. During checking, substantial quantity (910 grams) of heroin-like substance was recovered from the driver of said vehicle. He has been identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Khowaja son of Abdul Hamid Khowaja resident of Dildar Karnah Kupwara and was subsequently arrested. Moreover, the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Meanwhile, police in Kulgam during patrolling at general road Malwan in the jurisdiction of Police Station Devsar intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag. The police party recovered 10 kgs of grinded Cannabis like contraband substance filled in the said bag. The said drug peddler identified as Arsalan Azad Ganie son of Azad Ahmad Ganie resident of Malwan was arrested on the spot.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.

Police warns of strict action against the persons indulging in drug trafficking, and other criminal activities and urged upon the citizens to cooperate with the police to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society.
