Tokyo, May 23 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Japanese business leaders and discussed ways to enhance cooperation and opportunities for investment in India.
The business leaders PM met with included, Nobuhiro Endo, Chairman, NEC Corporation; Tadashi Yanai, Chairman/President and CEO, UNIQLO; Osamu Suzuki, Adviser, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Masayoshi Son, Board Director at Softbank Group Corp.
“In meeting with Chairman of NEC Corporation Nobuhiro Endo, the PM appreciated the company’s role in India’s telecommunication sector and discussed opportunities in new and emerging technologies in India,” MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s reform trajectory.
He talked about opportunities in areas such as digital learning, FinTech, infra and logistics networks, the PMO said.
The PMO further informed that Chairman Nobuhiro Endo spoke about opportunities in India in areas such as smart cities, emerging technologies and an innovative effort to encourage learning of Japanese language in India.
NEC Corporation Chairman Dr Nobuhiro Endo said that he discussed ways to contribute to smart cities in India.
NEC has plans to contribute to India in the field of education. He said that PM Modi has strong intention to build and enhance capabilities, the PMO informed.
During his interaction with the Chairman, President and CEO of  UNIQLO Tadashi Yanai, the PM asked him to take part in the PM-Mitra scheme aimed at further strengthening the textiles sector, the PMO said.
Yanai also appreciated the entrepreneurial zeal of the Indians. He said that he is exploring opportuniteis for investments in production and R&D in India.
“We can focus on End to End Products i.e. from plant to design to fabric,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi also discussed opportunities for investment, innovation, manufacturing electric vehicles, recycling centres in India with Advisor of Suzuki Motor Corporation Osamu Suzuki.
The PM praised Suzuki’s transformational role in India’s automotive industry.
The Suzuki leader said that the reforms undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are undescribable and they are changing India into a model landscape, the PMO informed.
Osamu Suzuki said that the self reliance initiative of the PM is supported by Japanese Investors very strongly.
The Prime Minister will also participate in the launch of Indo-Pacific Economic Framework by US President Joe Biden later in the day.
The IPEF is an economic arrangement focused around the further integration of Indo-Pacific economies, setting of standards and rules particularly in new areas like the digital economy, and to ensure that there are secure and resilient supply chains.
PM Modi will also have a Round-table with Japanese business leaders after the IPEF event.
