PM announces Rs 740 cr for flood hit J&K

Srinagar, Oct 23 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived on a day’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, announced Rs 570 crore for the flood hit homes here in addition to 170 crore for the renovation of six major hospitals in the state.

Prime Minister while asserting that the financial help be directly transferred to bank accounts of affected people, stated that people in Jammu and Kashmir have demanded that government aid reaches to them direct and that he has assured them that their demands will be considered.
He added that children have lost their books during floods and that it has been directed to the authorities to provide notebooks and books to these children immediately. “I met the locals, businessmen and other delegates and tried to take a closer look at the issues pertaining to the flood hit people of the region,” the PM said.
Modi also announced Rs 170 crore to renovate six major hospitals in the state besides announcing 750 crore rupees for rehabilitation programme in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports informed that the chief minister Omar Abdullah met Narendra Modi along with other party leaders in Srinagar. Modi also hailed the efforts of army for carrying ‘entire rescue operation’ during JK floods , saying same was really commendable.
He went to Siachen before travelling to Srinagar to spend time with the flood-affected people on the festival of lights.
“Friends, I am leaving for Siachen Glacier. It’s my good fortune that I will be able to spend time with our brave soldiers on this special day,” Modi tweeted, before embarking on the visit.
Addressing soldiers from Siachen, PM Modi said that they make it possible for 125 crore Indians to celebrate Diwali happily.
