Islamabad: The first petition filed in the reinstated Islamabad High Court today called for action against former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for violating the constitution and promulgating a graft amnesty in 2008 that benefited thousands of people.
A local resident named Shahjahan Khan Durrani filed the petition against Musharraf, who has been living in Britain in self-exile since last year.
The petition alleged that Musharraf was responsible for violating the constitution and promulgating the National Reconciliation Ordinance, a graft amnesty that benefited over 8,000 people, including President Asif Ali Zardari.
Durrani asked the court to take action against Musharraf for his alleged role in preventing the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, for ordering the 2006 military operation that killed Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and his “double standards” in the war on terror.
