Srinagar, May 5: Alleging that PDP is willing to allow the dilution of Article 370 as a price for coming to power in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah today said PDP president Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s open support to Narendra Modi’s declaration of abrogating the Article has exposed his hollow slogans and rhetoric speeches.
“The party (PDP) has gone straight from advocating ‘Healing Touch’ to supporting ‘Mr Modi Touch’ despite Mr Modi’s communal and anti-Muslim mindset’, Dr Abdullah said.
Addressing election rallies and public meetings in Bandipora, Pattan and Handwara in north Kashmir, Dr Abdullah said PDP’s tactical support to Mr Modi’s and BJP candidates in Jammu and Udhampur parliamentary seats had exposed the electoral and political alliance between BJP and PDP.
“Mufti Sayeed fielded candidates in the two seats in Jammu province tactically to divide the anti-Modi, secular vote in these areas to directly help the BJP candidates. Not even once did Mufti Sayeed think about Mr Modi’s destructive plans for J&K before jumping into his lap,’ Dr Abdullah said.
Dr Abdullah said Mr Modi was out to disrupt India’s harmony and peace and posed a grave challenge to the secular forces and institutions of this country.
“Mr Modi’s speeches are full of venom and threats to minorities now-a-days. His speeches in West Bengal and Assam have communalised the atmosphere and just day before yesterday we heard of the terrible, tragic ethnic carnage of Muslims in Assam. Mr Modi is out to set fire and divide the country on religous lines and it was a challenge to all secular forces in the country to unite and defeat Mr Modi in these parliamentary elections’, the NC president said.
Speaking at various venues, the NC president asked the people to vote in large numbers in favour of the NC-Congress alliance candidate from Baramulla constituency, Sharief-ud-din Shariq.
A vote for National Conference would be a vote of protest and resistance against Mr Modi. It would be a vote to embolden and empower secular forces and defeat communal powers.
In contrast, a vote for PDP candidate would be a vote for Mr Modi, his divisive and communal agenda and would pace way for his plans to dilute the State’s special status, Dr Abdullah said.
