Srinagar, Sep 30: The Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday announced to boycott entire session of state Legislative Assembly while demanded action against those responsible for the
killing of over 109 people since June 11. “We boycott this session of the assembly as a mark of protest against the killings and solidarity with the people of the Kashmir,” president of the PDP, Mehbooba Mufti said in the assembly “Typically I speak a lot but today I have no words and don’t actually know from where to begin. Today is the blackest day of the legislative assembly because we have assembled here to express condolence to those lost in the present unrest,” Mehbooba Mufti said while speaking on obituary reference moved in the house. “We are feeling helpless as this dispensation (National Conference and Congress) have defiled this entire institution due to which legislators are feeling discredited and their space is completely
crippled,” she said. “The house members are not in a position to condole or sympathise with the families of the victims. We are not even worthy of taking their names, we have done nothing. The least we could have done is to take action against in those cases where the culprits have been identified,” she added. Referring arrangements made by Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone in case of unruly scenes in the House, Mehbooba said, “I know you had made arrangements but this (situation) has gone beyond raising a hue and cry.” She said that while legislators are also paying tributes to the fellow legislator or parliamentarians, they had lived their life. “But 109 lives were cut far immaturely and unfortunately now, the ‘rate list’ of Rs Five lakh also comes from New Delhi.” “The schools are to be opened and announcement comes from Delhi, youth are released on orders from Delhi and even the curfew is relaxed on orders from Delhi.” Mehbooba termed as “unfortunate” the use of students as tools to prove a point while question. “Whenever there is any disturbance in any part of the globe, schools are closed first. Who would want to send children to school when so many students have been killed in the past three months?” she asked. Later, the members of the PDP, including party patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed walked out from the House.
