Srinagar: Demanding an immediate and unconditional apology from the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his claim that opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA’S took all dues available to the legislators for attending the business despite boycotting the session, PDP Saturday said that how come it is possible to draw the dues without the signatures of the Speaker. By claiming this Omar Abdullah has not only taken the shelter of lie but he in a sense has labeled his own Speaker as a ‘rogue’†senior PDP leader Molvi Iftikar Hussain Ansari told reporters during a press conference in Srinagar.
“Such a white lie from Chief Minister has not only amazed us but made us believe that to what extent he can go in maligning our image and reputation. Omar Abdullah who has uttered these remarks in Mendhar as per a news report are baseless. He should have confirmed first from the Speaker of the House. We demand and unconditional apology from him,†Ansari said.
Holding Omar Abdullah directly responsible for the execution of Afzal Guroo, Ansari said that PDP will certainly hold him responsible one day and will make him accountable for his role in Guroo’s issue. “Government of India was in a mood to consider the issue of Afzal but this Chief Minister (Omar Abdullah) spoiled everything and didn’t pay any attention. Omar took the issue lightly and didn’t care about the sentiments of people,†Ansari said.
He said that PDP always expressed concern about the issues pertaining to public. “So many scandals surfaced and are surfacing, be it the murder of Syed Yousuf, cricket scandal, Drug scandal, Land scandal, killing of youth and their random arrests, PDP always tried to make public aware about all these issues. We wished that Afzal Guroo issue should be discussed in Assembly and people know facts but the way government behaved was totally inappropriate,†Ansar said.
He said that it is unfortunate that government is insensitive about the issues pertaining to people. “The infighting between Ministers present in the government and the surfacing of scandals has made people believe that there is no government existing in the state,†Ansari said and added that the Chief Minister of the State is so insensitive that he has not been taking any notice of these issues.
“What a government it is? This government has given a benefit to a single person by allotting him the contract of set up boxes amounting to Rs 1600 crore. “A set up box, which costs Rs 450 is being supplied to people for Rs 1600 and government is acting as a mute spectator. What is all this? Is this government hell-bent to loot the people? National Conference thinks that nobody can deprive them from the power, as it is their hereditary right. They are wrong. People are too mature now and can differentiate between good and bad,†Ansari said.
“We tried to raise all these issues in Assembly but the non-seriousness of the government compelled us to go for a boycott. “At least by boycotting the session we maintained its sanctity unlike the government,†Ansari said and added that the government would not have been toppled in Delhi if we were being allowed to discuss the issue pertaining to Afzal Guroo and the return of his mortal remains.
Pertinently, while addressing a public meeting at Mendhar on April 16, Omar said on one hand PDP legislators boycotted the recent budget session but on the other they walked away with all the dues the legislators are entitled to during the session.Ansari was flanked by PDP Chief Spokesperson, Nayeem Akhtar and MLA, Bandipora, Nizamudin Bhat.
