Pancyat Raj System will be strengthened: Soz

Udhampur: President JKPCC and former Union Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz-MP said that all issues of public concern are in the knowledge of Congress party and are receiving due attention of the party. He said that Panchayat Raj System would be further strengthened so that it becomes an effective instrument of service to the people at the grass root level.

Addressing a largely attended function in connection with first Death Anniversary of Yash Paul Khajuria, former minister and Senior Congress leader, at Udhampur today, Prof. Soz said that Panchayat Raj System would be further strengthened so that they can play the desired role as expected from the basic institution of democracy. He said that Co-ordination Committee of Congress-NC would be shortly held to discuss the suggestions of the Congress party for empowerment of Panchayats by incorporating necessary provisions of 73rd Amendment, the document regarding this has been finalized. After this exercise is over, the election to the Block Development Councils would also be held.
He (Soz) assured the Panchs and Sarpanchs that besides other things to make these institutions effective, they would be provided honorarium and insurance cover and all other things necessary for making these institutions effective to deliver to the expectation of people would be done. However, he asked the Panchayat representatives to be on the forefront to fight against corruption and to ensure that various central and state sponsored schemes for the welfare of people are implemented properly at the grass root level.
Reiterating the commitment of the party for equitable development of all three regions of the state, PCC Chief asked partymen to unitedly fight against communal and divisive forces. He recalled the service of Shri Yash Paul Khajuria, who was a dedicated leader of Congress party, he (Soz) asked the party workers to work for party with same dedication and devotion. Prof. Soz also announced that a Community Hall in memory of Shri Yash Paul Khajuira would be constructed in district Udhampur for which he announced sum of rupees 10 lack out of his MPLAD fund and said that other legislators would contribute from their CDS for this purpose also. On this occasion Mr. Sorav Khajuria son of Late Shri Yash Paul Khajuria also addressed the gathering and he was inducted into the NSUI as State Secretary.
