JAMMU: Asking the recently elected Panchayati Raj Representatives (PRR) to play a pro-active role in the implementation of various schemes, Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice, Panchayati Raj and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar said that by doing so they would be effectively contributing their bit in ensuring the effective decentralization of powers and empowerment of masses at grass root level.
The Minister was speaking at the inaugural programme of 4-days training programme for recently elected Panchayati Raj Representatives being conducted by Regional Rural Extension Training Centre, R. S. Pura.
MLA, R. S. Pura, Ch. Gharu Ram, Director Rural Development Jammu, Mr. Shafiq Ahmed Raina and other senior officers of the department were present on the occasion.
Referring to the holding of Panchayati elections in the state, the Minister said that the government has ensured that these were held after three decades and by virtue of the same we have ensured that effective empowerment of the people is ensured, which would go a long way in ensuring the proper and systematic implementation of various welfare programmes and schemes of the government.
“By putting in place Panchayats, we would also be getting additional funds from the Centre for the overall and sustained development of the rural areasâ€, the Minister maintained and adding that the Panchayati Raj Representatives now have the added responsibility of ensuring overall development of their areas without giving preferential treatment to any particular area. He said that they have also been empowered to work in tandem with the officials of 14 departments to ensure proper implementation of different schemes.
The Minister said that the department would be conducting more such training programmes to impart the necessary information to the elected Panchayati Raj Representatives about the various welfare schemes and programmes of the government for their effective implementation. (KMW News)
