The Pakistani eves beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the final of the inaugural women’s cricket tournament last week to notch up the nation’s first Asian Games gold medal in eight years.
At a reception hosted to felicitate the team in the Presidency on Tuesday, President Zardari announced a cash reward of five lakh rupees each for the players and two lakh each for the coaches of the victorious side.
In his address during the felicitation ceremony, Zardari hoped that the precedent set by the women’s cricket team would provide impetus to other potential female athletes of the nation.
“Ours is a talented nation with potential to rise in every field. The important factor is how the talent is groomed and guided to maximise its true potential,” the Pakistan President said.
The President also hoped that the eves would continue to make their mark in cricket and win more laurels for the country.
He said that the whole nation was proud of the team not only for their victory but also for introducing Pakistani women as a symbol of talent and great potential.
