Islamabad, November 14 (KMW): Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of Pakistan received the High Commissioners and Ambassadors of the African Group for a joint meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
The Foreign Minister articulated the government’s vision of forging close trade, commercial and investment ties with the African continent. He stated that more robust relations with the continent of the future would be a cornerstone of the PTI government’s foreign policy.
The High Commissioners and Ambassadors of South Africa, Tunisia, Kenya, Algeria, Somalia, Sudan, Morocco, Mauritius, Nigeria, Egypt and Libya expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to hold detailed discussions with the Foreign Minister at length.
They conveyed that the ties between African countries and Pakistan were marked by mutual respect, admiration, warmth and cordiality and Pakistan was viewed as an important country in the region.
The envoys were unanimous in underlining the need for high-level engagements as a way forward for robust bilateral relations. The need for the exchange of regular official and private sector business delegations was also reiterated.
The Foreign Minister remarked that it would be his endeavor to ensure that warmth and cordial relations were translated into robust trade, economic and investment ties and that regular bilateral visits take place, with cooperation expanding into a range of diverse fields.
The meeting concluded with deep appreciation by the envoys for a unique opportunity to share common concerns and ideas relating to important Pakistan-Africa relations.
