New Delhi, June 9 AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday hit out at the Delhi Police after it registered an FIR against him under different sections of IPC and said the police was suffering from “both sideism” or “balance-waad” syndromes.
“Delhi Police is suffering from ‘both sideism’ or ‘balance-waad’ syndromes. One side has openly insulted our Prophet while the other side has been named to assuage the BJP supporters and make it look like there was hate speech on both sides,’ Owaisi said in a series of tweets after he was booked for alleged inflammatory remarks.
The Hyderabad MP further said, “I have received an excerpt of the FIR. This is the first FIR I have seen that’s not specifying what the crime is. Imagine an FIR about a murder where cops don’t mention the weapon or that the victim bled to death. I don’t know which specific remarks of mine have attracted the FIR.”
Owaisi informed that he will consult his lawyers in this regard.
“As for the FIR against me, we will consult our lawyers and address it as and when required. We will not be intimidated by these tactics. Criticising hate speech and giving hate speeches cannot be equated,” the MP said.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police said that it has registered two FIRs over posting and sharing of messages on social media that could lead to division within the society and pose a danger to public peace and order.
One case has been registered against now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, whose derogatory remarks about Prophet Mohammad triggered outrage in the Islamic world and forced the BJP to suspend Sharma and sack another party spokesperson.
Another FIR has been registered against multiple social media entities. The name of Owaisi is also in the FIR, police said.
