Patna, May 7 : Despite best efforts of the official machinery and heavy deployment of security forces to ensure free and fair polling in seven Lok Sabha seats during fifth phase of Lok Sabha electios, one person was killed in police firing for his attempt to capture the booth in Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat and also few incidents of violence were reported from other parts, even as estimated 56 percent electorate exercised their franchise in Bihar today.
Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar Ajay Nayak told media persons that estimated 56 percent electorate exercised their franchise in seven Lok Sabha seat where polling remained by and large peaceful, barring few incidents of violence.By-elections were also held in two assembly constituencies–Chiraiya and Maharajganj where 54 and 55 percent electorate exercised their franchise, he added.
‘Highest polling was recorded in Muzaffarpur where 61.92 percent electorate exercised their franchise followed by Saran, Hajipur and Ujiyarpur Lok Sabha seats, with 56 percent each electorate exercising their franchise in all these constituencies’, Mr Nayak said adding that 55.5 percent electorate exercised their franchise in Sheohar.
In Sitamarhi, 54 percent electorate exercised their franchise while 53 percent electorate cast their votes in Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat, he further added.
