Omar Abdullah to meet Prime Minister

Srinagar: The State Government will hold a final plan meeting with full Planning Commission tomorrow to finalize annual plan, pegged by the State at Rs 6600 crore for 2011-12.
The plan is coupled with Rs 1200 crore under Prime Minister’s Re-construction Plan (PMRP) and Rs 500 crore through Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
Official sources told the final plan will be attended by full Planning Commission led by Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather.
Besides, Economic Advisor to Government, Jalil Ahmed Khan and team of administrative secretaries from various departments are scheduled to attend the meeting.
The meeting preceded a series of communications between the State Government officials with the Planning Commission since January this year.
During the inter-actions, the state gave a detailed presentation of the State’s requirements for current financial year.
Chief Secretary Madhav Lal and Economic Advisor to the Government, Jaleel Ahmed Khan attended the meetings from the Government side besides senior officers of Planning and Finance Departments. Administrative Secretaries of different departments have also given their detailed presentation to the Planning Commission.
Jammu and Kashmir was granted Rs 6000 crore worth annual plan during last financial year (2010-11) and was the highest ever. This current financial year, government sought 10 percent increase in the plan.
The amount of Rs 1200 crore sought under the PMRP is equal one State had been granted last financial year. Due to disturbances last year, the State incurred about Rs 675 crore of the PMRP while rest of the amount remained unspent.
The Government is also hopeful to get Rs 500 crore through Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
Prior to the departure for New Delhi to finalize the plan, chief minister, Omar Abdullah, had a meeting with his cabinet colleagues at Civil Secretariat here on Monday to discuss the annual plan.
Meanwhile, after meeting the full Planning Commission, Chief minister Omar Abdullah is scheduled to call on the Prime Minister in the evening.
