Mirwaiz, who led a delegation comprising Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo and Professor Nazir Ahmad, had a detailed discussion with the special representative regarding the prevailing situation in Kashmir.
“The Mirwaiz welcomed the OIC’s continuous support to right to self determination of Kashmiris and expressed hope that OIC will continue to raise its voice in favour of Kashmiris at international forums including European Union Organization, African solidarity organization of commonwealth, UN Human Rights Council. The Hurriyat Chairman elucidated that for perpetual regional peace, OIC has to give priority to Kashmir issue,” the statement said.
He also appealed OIC’s special representative to personally visit Kashmir in order to direct take stock of the situation there.
He said that OIC should enhance coordination with Hurriyat Conference and interactions and include Kashmiri experts in contact group so that Kashmir’s reality is understood closely.
Terming the appointment of independent commission with regard to Kashmir’s Human Rights as very important step, Mirwaiz advocated for releasing the first report by the commission. The delegation in detail apprised him about the hurdles created due to Indian forces concentration on political activities of Kashmiri leadership.
