Srinagar: The Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) will soon appoint a commission to probe human rights violations in Kashmir, OIC Assistant Secretary General, Abdul Alim, has said.
According to a Hurriyat (M) spokesman, during a detailed meeting with the amalgam’s chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Thursday in Brussels, Alim who is also the OIC’s special envoy on Kashmir revealed that the OIC was going to set a Human Rights Commission on Kashmir which would present its first report on Kashmir soon. “On being informed about the ground situation in Kashmir by Mirwaiz, the OIC general secretary expressed concern over the gross human rights violations in Kashmir and the random arrests and detention of youth,†the spokesman told .
Alim also announced an increase in the number of members of the OIC’s Kashmir Contact Group and scholarships for Kashmiri students in top universities of the Muslim world.
Alim also invited Mirwaiz Umar to a special meeting at the OIC’s Jeddah headquarters, the spokesman added.
Chairman Kashmir Centre, Barister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, Pakistan’s Ambassador to European Union, Jalal Abbas Jeelani, Former Pakistani Information Minister, Sherry Rehman, Executive Director Justice Foundation Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, Executive Director Kashmir Scavadian Council, Ali Shahnawaz Khan and policy maker Naseem Zehra were also present during the meeting
