Notorious Drug Peddler Booked Under PIT NDPS Act by Police in Srinagar

Srinagar, December 31: Srinagar Police have booked a notorious drug peddler namely Shakeel Ahmad Sheikh alias Shakeel Kano, son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh Srinagar, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPSA).

Upon a comprehensive dossier prepared by Srinagar Police, the PIT NDPSA warrant was issued from the competent authority subsequently, the accused person was lodged in District Jail Udhampur.

The aforementioned drug peddler is a habitual offender, having been previously involved in FIR No. 131/2022 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Safakadal. Despite having been bound down under preventive measures repeatedly, Shakeel Kano persisted with his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a grave threat to the society, especially, the youth.

Known for his notoriety as a chronic miscreant and drug peddler, the accused person has been actively engaged in illegal drug trafficking and creating public nuisances. He is a key figure in the narcotics trade, procuring drugs from various sources and selling them at higher prices, primarily targeting the youth of Srinagar.

This series of decisive actions by Srinagar Police demonstrates its unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace and protecting society. The tenacious efforts of J&K Police will persist against drug peddlers and their illicit network with full might of law to ensure a safer and drug-free environment for the community.

Police solves theft case in Budgam, accused arrested; Stolen cash recovered

December 31: Police in Budgam have solved a theft case within hours by arresting a person involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen cash from his possession.

On 29/12/2024, Police Post Mouchewa received a written complaint from a person namely Mohammad Ashraf Naik son of Ghulam Mohammad Naik resident of Mahu Banihal working as Imam of Jamia Masjid Gopalpora Chadoora, stating therein that some unknown thief/thieves have stolen cash from his room when he was leading Fajr prayers at mosque.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.180/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Chadoora and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a team headed by I/C PP Mochewa, Muhammad Adil Tak under the supervision of SDPO Charar-i-Sharief Shri Owais Ahmad Wani, acted promptly by using intelligence inputs to apprehend the suspects involved in the commission of crime. Some suspects were zeroed in for questioning and one among them identified as Umar Farooq Shah son of Farooq Ahmad Shah resident of Zoolwah Gopalpora admitted his involvement in the commission of crime. The accused has been arrested and, on his disclosure, the stolen cash amounting to ₹22,220/- was recovered from his possession.

The residents of the area especially the Masjid Committee of the said village appreciated the action of J&K Police and lauded the efforts for cracking/solving the case.
