Srinagar: Life on Tuesday returned to normal across the Valley after remaining affected for three consecutive days due to government curbs and the shutdown, called by Hurriyat Conference (G) spearheading the ongoing ‘Quit Kashmir’ campaign across the state.
Correspondents said that all shops, business establishments, private and government offices, petrol pumps and educational institutions, banks and financial institutions across the valley resumed their work this morning in view of the reprieve announced by Syed Ali Shah Geelani led Hurriyat Conference.
In Srinagar, the capital city, the markets wore a festive look as shoppers swarmed in huge numbers to pile up essential commodities. Lal chowk, residency road, Gonkhan markets were bustling with business activities.
All the government, semi-government and private banks that resumed business activities after three day of shutdowns were over crowded with the customers. Serpentine queues of people could also be witnessed outside the ATM’s. At many places unruly scenes were witnessed due to frequent traffic jams.
The residents of Srinagar, particularly the old city, where restrictions remain in place on every second day heaved a sigh of relief as all shops, offices, educational institutions reopened today.
Similar reports poured in from other districts of the Valley.
“Situation at this hour continues to remain normal and under control throughout Kashmir Valley. There are no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere so far,” a police spokesman added.
