Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday announced that there will be no strike during first ten days of the Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
“On the appeal by Tehreek Wahadat Islami (an ally with the Hurriyat Conference), it has been decided that there will be no strike in first ten days of Muharram. However, people are urged to stage protest after Friday prayers for one hour tomorrow, the world international human rights day,” a spokesman quoted Syed Ali Shah Geelani as having said in a statement to KMW here.
With the decision, the Hurriyat Conference has withdrawn the call for strike against human rights violations on December 11.
Through one-hour peaceful protest tomorrow, Geelani urged people to raise the issue of ‘worst human rights violations in Kashmir.”
Castigating the unabated arrests of youth in every nook and corner of the valley, the spokesman said, Geelani said his amalgam can’t remain mute spectator to the happenings.
