Baramulla: Rejecting bilateral talks, self rule and greater autonomy, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said tripartite talks or implementation of the United Nations resolution only would help to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue once and for all.
Addressing Friday congregation at Baitul-Mukaram mosque at Baramulla in north Kashmir this afternoon, Mr Geelani said Hurriyat was not against any dialogue process which would help to find a lasting solution to the vexed Kashmir issue.
Talks should be result oriented and meaningful, he said and allged that India was never sincere to address the issue, which is main hurdle in the peace in the region.
Thousands of people of Kashmir are in jails and other detention centres, he said adding that this was clear proof that India was not serious.
About interlocutors, he said appointment of these interlocutors was nothing but to buy time and delay the resolution of the issue.
Mr Geelani said, “We have witnessed bilateral talks between Government of India (GoI) and Kashmiri leaders and India and Pakistan since 1947. But, he said, nothing has been achieved from these talks”.
The chairman of the amalgam said the only way to resolve the Kashmir issue was to hold tripartite talks between the main parties to the dispute–India, Pakistan and People of Jammu and Kashmir–.
He said implementation of United Nations resolutions on Kashmir would also help to resolve the issue. (UNI)
