Srinagar, Nov 3 : After about 80 people, including security force and police personnel were injured in fresh clashes, life remained crippled for the 118th day today in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have extended the strike till November 10, demanding right to ‘self- determination.’
This time the impact of separatist strike call is seen more in towns and tehsil headquarters of almost all districts as compared to summer capital, Srinagar, where private vehicles are plying though passenger transport remained off.
Educational institutions however, remained closed throughout the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar since the eruption of protests.
Though police said there is no curfew or restriction in any part of the Kashmir valley, people in some areas of the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) alleged that they were directed to remain indoor by the security forces in morning though restrictions were eased as the day progressed. However, at several places one side of the main roads remained closed with barbed wire or by parking bullet proof vehicles in the middle.
Police however, admitted that deployment of security forces and state police personnel will continue on the ground to maintain law and order.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag, have extended strike till November 10.
According to protest calendar, the separatists had asked people to hold one day ” Azadi Conventions” in their respective areas today.
Despite relaxation in separatist strike from 1700 hrs, shops and business establishments remained closed in the down town and SeK besides other parts of the summer capital, Srinagar last evening in protest against the security force action at Jenab Sahib Soura and Anchar areas in the outskirts, where more than 50 persons, including security forces besides a Superintendent of Police (SP) were injured in the clashes.
