Srinagar: Declaring that breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) was not against any dialogue process, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said talks are one of the ways to find solution to Kashmir issues.
However, he made it clear that no bilateral talks would help to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.
Mr Geelani was talking to media persons here at his Hyderpora residence, where he was put under house arrest yesterday to prevent him from organizing a meeting with Imams and Ulemas to discuss the increase in social evils in the society. He was released last night.
The amalgam chairman said he or Hurriyat was not against talks, which are one of the ways to find a solution.
He further said he was not against the secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan in Islamabad. But, he said, these talks would yield nothing untill India accepts the hard ground realities, Mr Geelani added.
Bilateral talks between India and Pakistan and India and some leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir were being held since 1947 without making any breakthrough, he said.
India must accept the disputed nature of the Jammu and Kashmir to start a result-oriented and meaningful dialogue.
Let India fulfill the broken promises made with the people of Jammu and Kashmir as admitted by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who said that Kashmir problem is about broken promises, the HC chairman stated.
Mr Geelani alleged that the state government was promoting immoral activities by encouraging co education in the educational institutions.
He said the co-education system has resulted in increase in the social evils in the state. It was like keeping fire and hay together, he said.
The HC chairman stressed the need for providing moral and religious education in schools to control the social evils.
The amalgam chairman further said elders, particularly parents, must keep a strict vigil on young boys and girls.
He was also very critical of allowing liquor shops for generating revenue.
