Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee Government has dissolved the previous West Bengal State Council of Sports and reconsituted a new committee in which many present and former sportspersons found place under chairmanship of Sports Minister Madan Mitra.
Disclosing this to reporters here Mitra today said the new committee was reconstituted with a 12-member advisory board on July 2. Besides, a 46-member Working Committee was formed the same day.
Both will be headed by him.
The advisory board vice-chairmen are Dr MS Ghosh, Chuni Goswami, Sukumar Samajpathi, Gurbux Singh, Syed Nayemuddin, Vaes Paes and Arun Ghosh. Shyam Thapa, Arun Lal and Subroto Bhattachyra are the joint secetaries.
The working committee will have Sourav Ganguly, Gouranga Banerjee, Poulami Ghatak, Dibyendu Barua and Crompton Dutta.
The internal administration, including financial affairs of the West Bengal State Council of sports, will be dealt with exlusively by the secretary under the guidance of the sports minister.
The government would also form a standing committee, which would monitor progress of various schemes and sanction grant to individuals and associations for various purposes, including conduct and organising the state, national and international sports meet and also recommend proposals to the government.
The standing committee would also formulate sports plans, including organising coaching camps in various sports and games.
The minister said many more sportspersons would be included in the sub-committees to look after different disciplines.
