National Road Safety Month-2025: ARTO Kargil organizes road safety awareness program

Kargil, January 16, 2025: As part of the National Road Safety Month-2025, ARTO Kargil, in collaboration with the Traffic Department, All Kargil Transport Association (AKTA) Ladakh, today organized a road safety awareness program at Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil.

The event was attended by SSP Kargil, Shree Ram R as chief guest; ASP Kargil, Nitin Yadav; ARTO Kargil, Khadim Hussain; Mohammad Nissar from Traffic Police; Assistant Engineer BRO, Chorasia; AD DIPR Kargil, Raza Ali Abidi: Chief Education Officer Kargil, Medical representatives, and members of various transport associations in the district.

The program began with a one-minute silence in memory of the five citizens who lost their lives in a recent tragic accident in Shilikchey area of Kargil. 

ARTO Kargil, Khadim Hussain gave a presentation on essential road safety rules and regulations, followed by a data-driven presentation by ASP, Nitin Yadav on the alarming number of accidents, lives lost, and traffic violations that are contributing to the problem in the region. 

Dr. Shazia Naaz, Consultant Anaesthetist, DHK, delivered a vital presentation on CPR in the event of road traffic accident with a practical demonstration on CPR to both adults and children. She also educated the participants about the importance of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) and how they can save lives during emergencies.

SSP Kargil, Shree Ram R emphasized the importance of road safety awareness and presented factual data about road traffic accidents in the district.

He identified three primary causes of accidents: overspeeding, overloading, and night driving. The SSP stressed that the department is working diligently to reduce the number of accidents through targeted initiatives, including increasing awareness in schools and collaborating with transport associations.

In addition, JE PMGSY, Mudasir highlighted the road safety challenges faced across India, including the major causes of road accidents. He introduced the 5Es of Road Safety: Engineering, Education, Enforcement, Emergency Services, and Evaluation, underscoring the importance of road safety engineering measures to mitigate accidents.

Nissar Hussain from Traffic Police, Ladakh also spoke on the topic of dangerous driving, urging participants to take personal responsibility for their safety and act as ambassadors for road safety.

He cautioned drivers about the dangers of overloading and stressed that van drivers should only stop at designated locations to ensure the safety of passengers and keep traffic jams in mind.

Assistant Engineer BRO, Chorasia during his speech emphasized the critical role of road maintenance in ensuring safety and called for continued coordination between departments and the public to achieve the goal of safer roads.

Idrees and Mustafa, representatives from Transport Association highlighted the challenges faced by transporters in ensuring road safety and the importance of collective responsibility to reduce accidents.

The ARTO Kargil moderated the entire program and thanked all participants for their valuable contributions. The program is part of National Road Safety Month being organized from January Jan 01 to Jan 31, 2025. This initiative aims to engage all stakeholders, including citizens, youth, and local authorities, in raising awareness about the importance of safer roads.
