Dhaka, Sep 23 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has commented that if there is a conspiracy from foreign countries to thwart the national election of Bangladesh, the people of this country will also impose sanctions on them.

She said, there is nothing to fear regarding the application of the US visa policy on Bangladeshis.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made these comments at a press conference after addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen was with her.

Highlighting various activities of BNP-Jamaat in the name of preventing elections, she told the journalists that all the facts need to be shown well.

Those who issue sanctions, they will see that too, not to be one side. Who started it first should be seen. Sanction will be given after seeing it. And if Awami League is targeted then I have nothing to say, she said.

Regarding the US ban, the Prime Minister said that those who are saying this have also a problem with their country’s elections. We can see what they are doing with their opposition. We didn’t do that, Hasina observed.

Stating that the AL did not come to power by believing in anyone’s power, she said, “We came to the power by people’s vote, no one handed it over to us. Therefore, we want the elections to be transparent and free. Today’s ban has also mentioned the opposition parties.”

Sheikh Hasina said, if someone wants to come to power by any other means instead of people’s power, then they should be punished. There is no chance of taking power illegally. We have brought the democratic process, and it will continue. The people of the country and the party Awami League will decide who will lead the Awami League in the future.

The Prime Minister said that democracy, rule of law and freedom of expression will be ensured in the light of the constitution.

At this time, she called on the expatriates not pay heed to rumours.
