Srinagar, January 13: National Conference Wednesday reiterated its commitment of playing a constructive role in empowering the weaker sections of the society particularly womenfolk.
Addressing a one day convention of party’s Women’s Wing at party HQs, NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar extolled the vital role played by women in the social, academic, cultural and economic progress of the state. He said, “National Conference is proud to have a robust, vital Women’s Wing which has strengthened the party at every crucial juncture. In such times where direct attacks are being orchestrated on our special character, I ask for your continuous support in fighting such forces. Women who constitute almost half of the states population have always stood behind the tall leadership of Sher-e-Kashmir. Now they have the same kind of affection Dr Farooq Sahab and Omar Sahab as well.â€
The NC General Secretary said that Madar-e-Meharbaan Begum Akbar Jehan was a role-model for JK women as her vision for their emancipation and education had guided thousands of young girls and women towards prosperity and progress.
Sagar lauded the role played by Madar-e-Meharbaan in heralding the cause of women’s education and said the ‘Naya Kashmir’ vision document clearly outlined the vision of the party for the upliftment of womenfolk.
Provincial President NC Women’s wing and MLA Habba Kadal Shameema Firdous while speaking on the occasion asked the party cadre to strengthen party at grassroots levels. “NC has always worked towards empowering women folk in Kashmir. History is testimony to that, “ Shameema said adding, “Now it is upto all of us to enlighten our sisters and mothers who don’t know the historical interventions of NC leadership aimed at bringing women in Kashmir out of the morass of illiteracy and dependency.â€
“Conspiracies are being hatched to bring Kashmir and Jammu at loggerheads by elements inimical to peace and prosperity of the state. It is with this design that Kashmiris are being asked to accept things which are detrimental to prosperity of our society. NFSA is one such thing. Flood victims have been completely ignored and the situation as far as power is concerned is equally grim. We will continue to oppose such undemocratic moves,†she said.
Among others who were present on the occasion were Provincial Secretary Showkat Ah Mir, MLA Homshalibugh Ab Majeed Bhat (Larmi), NC Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar and Women’s Wing leaders Shabeena, Khalidaji.
