Nagrota attack: 7 militants 3 Army men killed in two separate incidents

Jammu, Nov 29: After eight hours of heavy exchange of fire, Government Forces killed four militants who attacked a heavily fortified army camp in the Nagrota cantonment area in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
Heavily armed militants stormed the camp triggering a fierce gunfight that left four attackers and three army men dead and as many soldiers injured, officials said.
Police said that an unknown number of militants barged into the military camp near the headquarters of the Indian Army’s 16 Corps- a massive military formation that acts as a nerve centre to fight militancy and defend the borders in the Jammu region.
An officer said the militants carrying automatic weapons and explosives entered the field regiment camp around 5.30 a.m. They started firing indiscriminately at the Officers’ Mess inside the camp.
Officials said that so far four militants have been killed in the operation while the search operation has been going on to ensure no militants are hiding in the camp.
The militants holed up in the army camp exchanged fire with the government forces, killing three army men and injuring three others in the gunfire, one of them being a young army major.The retaliatory firing by the forces killed three militants.
A police official told CNS the militants had entered the area in army clothes during the change in guard hours.
Manish Mehta, Defence PRO refused to confirm the details till the operation was completely over.
Meanwhile, Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday said that it foiled an infiltration bid in Ramghar sector of Samba district and killed all three militants.
A BSF soldier, identified as Sanjay Kumar, was injured in the firefight that erupted after militants were challenged near Fatwal and Chamliyal posts in Ramghar sector. The injured BSF man was admitted at Government Medical College and Hospital , Jammu for treatment. (CNS)
