Kargil, June 01: Munshi Habibullah Mission Higher Secondary School (MHMHSS), Kargil today held its Traditional Dress Festival, an event that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region through traditional attire worn by students and faculty as well as a variety of cultural programmes.

Joint Director, Information, Ladakh/Additional Secretary Higher Education, Imteeaz Kacho, graced the occasion as the chief guest while Chief Education Officer, Kargil, SD Namgail was the guest of honour. District Officers;Councillor Choskore, Nasir Hussain Munshi; Councillor Baroo-Minjee Constituency, Advocate Khadim Hussain; Councillor Chuli Skambo, Altaf Hussain; Councillor Taisuru, Abdul Hadi; Director MHMHSS, Gulzar Hussain Kingi; Assistant Director, Sarvar Hussain Munshi, Principal, Dr. Vincy Abraham; parents, school faculty, students beside others were present on the occasion.

In his address, Joint Director, Information, Imteeaz Kacho commended the school management especially for their dedication to the Rewa Na KASCO initiative which supports specially-abled children and provides special care. He also appreciated the contribution of its staff for their exceptional work and devotion.He described this setup as revolutionary and emphasized the need for the community’s collective responsibility towards these special students as a noble cause.

While highlighting the school’s efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage, he referred to various initiatives such as the ethnic food festival, ethnic dress festivals and ramp walks which have immensely contributed to cultural enrichment.

Moreover, the Joint Director encouraged the promotion of local culture and heritage through storytelling and songs particularly usage of the Ladakhi ‘igay’ as a platform to document and celebrate the region’s unique traditions. In this direction, he gave the example of the Information Department’s magazine, ‘Kargil Samzod’ in which a dedicated chapter on elementary igay (Ladakhi alphabet) is featured regularly.

Kacho also appreciated the performance of Imdad, one of the hosts of the event, for his confidence and effective presentation. He urged the school management to make efforts towards reducing homework and to see if the burden of the school bag can also be eased to some extent. He spoke in this context from the perspective of the National Education Policy. He also appreciated the role of the school towards imparting quality education and especially towards helping students become good and responsible citizens.

Chief Education Officer, Kargil, SD Namgail congratulated the students for their performances and appreciated their hard work. He expressed happiness and pride in witnessing the diverse cultural dresses and the participation of all students. The CEO particularly appreciated the inclusive approach towards involving specially-abled children in the event, which highlighted the school’s commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.

Earlier, the Director and Assistant Director of the school welcomed the chief guest and guest of honour with the traditional khataqs. In his welcome address, Gulzar Hussain Munshi highlighted the efforts of the school towards quality and inclusive education while simultaneously throwing light on the need for promotion of culture. The school has a record of organizing cultural events at regular intervals in the past and making the student’s ambassadors of culture, he added.

Later, in his address, Principal, Dr.Vincy Abraham asserted how a record of sorts in Kargil has been created,during the event, with almost 800 students participating in the ramp walk. He informed how intensely the school management, staff and students have put in sincere efforts to make the entire event a grand success. He then concluded the programme with the vote of thanks.

There were ramp walks by students of Rewa Na KASCO as well as students of the lower wing of the school. During the event, song and dance performances of various tribes and regions of Kargil as well from Kerala, Punjab and Nepal were also presented by the students with immense enthusiasm.
