Srinagar, Feb 24 (KMW): More than 400 shopkeepers and other traders today observed a total shutdown on Srinagar-Airport road, where a flyover is being constructed from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh.
Alleging that their business would be completely hit if traffic on the route gets closed as proposed by the authorities, the traders demanded proper compensation for losses they would suffer.
More than 400 shopkeepers and other traders today closed their establishments in protest against the government decision to stop traffic on the route.
“We have no alternative but only these shops to earn our livelihood,” the traders said, adding that if the road is closed their trade will be badly hit.
They said even though the road is still open from both sides, the business was down due to construction of the fly-over going on round the clock.
Demanding proper compensation for the losses they would occur due to closure of the road, the traders said it will take more than three years to complete the project.
Threatening to intensify their agitation if government failed to to justice with them, the traders said thousands of families are dependent on trade activities, particularly from Solina to Alochi Bagh-Haftchinar.
