Srinagar: The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley experienced more snow, while plains had heavy rains since last night resulting in severe cold, disrupting normal life.

Being a holiday today, majority of people preferred to remain indoor because of severe cold due to icy cold winds.
The summer capital, Srinagar, experienced heavy rains since last night coupled with frequent power failure disrupting normal life.
The Harwan mountains, on the outskirts of the Srinagar city, experienced fresh snowfall. The area was couered with a blanket of snow clearly visible from world famous Dal Lake.
Snow on upper reaches and rains in the city have resulted in severe cold, forcing people to wear jackets and other warm cloths.
Tourist resort of Sonamarg, Zojila and Menamarg on the Srinagar-Leh national highway also experienced snowfall, forcing authorities to suspend the traffic on the road, linking the Ladakh region with the rest of the state.
Traffic will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway.
Upper reaches in north Kashmir, including border belt of Keran, Karnah, Neeru, Machil and other areas, also received snowfall.
However, the plains had heavy rains, disrupting normal life.
A hotel owner told KMW from world famous ski resort of Gulmarg that fresh snowfall was received on upper reaches, including Afarwat, Khilanmarg.
Gulmarg slopes experienced rains, he said.
Reports of moderate to heavy snowfall were received from the holy Amarnath cave shrine, its periphery and Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso Top and Panjterni on the traditional Pahalgam-Cave route.
