Srinagar, February 2(KMW): All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) senior leader and Chairman People’s Political Party (PPP) Engineer Hilal Ahmad War was put under house arrest today evening when a contingent of police from Maisuma Police Station visited his house and put on guard several cops informing him that his movement was restricted.
According to a party press note, War was scheduled to register a “peaceful protest march” on Sunday (February 3, 2019) against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir “which is an internationally recognized disputed territory.”
The press release read: “State Administration foiled Mr. War’s protest march and put him under house detention. Police officials informed Engineer Hilal Ahmad War about his house detention on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. and said that he can’t move out from his Maisuma residence.”
The PPP spokesperson condemned the house arrest of pro-freedom leadership of Kashmir including party Chairman Engineer Hilal Ahmad War in strong words saying it amounted to “State oppression and a denial of right to expression which is tantamount to violation of Human Rights envisaged in Universal Declaration of Human Rights wherein India is a signatory.”
