Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference (M) Friday said the government was trying to “undermine” the socio-religio- political standing of its chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq among the masses.
“Since Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has turned Mirwaiz’s residence into a sub-jail, debarring him from offering Friday prayers. A black chapter was added to the history of Kashmir when, for the first time, Mirwaiz Kashmir wasn’t allowed to offer congregational prayers at Eidgah on Eid-Ul-Azha.  Despite protests by masses and Islamic clerics over this act, the government repeated the same policy by not allowing the Mirwaiz to Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid today. Clearly there is a conspiracy to keep the Mirwaiz away from the masses,†a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement issued here today.
The spokesman said such “vindictive†tactics cannot subdue the pro-freedom leadership. “This government has been exposed. People have seen the level this government can stoop to in order to save its interests and position,†the spokesman said.
