Kashmir is in for a political storm after the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (m) and prominent pro-freedom leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has stated that the BJP-led NDA government did more to help resolve the Kashmir issue than the Congress-led UPA.

“There is no denying that the UPA and the Congress had opportunities but they didn’t do much. They only saw Kashmir as a security issue. If you see the NDA, it took better decisions on Kashmir,” chairman of a Hurriyat Conference faction said in an interview to India Today.

On ground though Kashmir’s have not taken the statement with much positivity as Prime ministerial candidate of BJP Narendra Modi is quiet infamous in Kashmir for his alleged role in heinous Gujarat anti-Muslim riots.

Pertinently eminent netizens are criticizing the praise and are writing that they are –“disheartened and disappointed to learn that Mirwaiz looks at Modi as a better option for Kashmir, instead of mocking at the travesty of his Prime Ministerial candidature. Seems he’s looking forward to work with the ‘butcher of Gujarat’ to get Azadi for Kashmir.”

No doubt, former NDA Prime Minister Vajpayee had evoked insaniyat” (humanity) and “insaaf” (justice) invoked by to reach out people of Kashmir but Modi hold the opposite impression as he is seen in a very negative context in Kashmir on account of Gujarat Riots .

Seemingly, the Mirwaiz statement has misfired on ground zero.
