Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday flayed the state legislature for passing “anti-Kashmiri†laws and condoning the “terror and oppression of armed forces.â€
Addressing a Friday gathering at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said India, through the state legislature, was trying to change the demographic character of Jammu and Kashmir by dividing people on sectarian and ethnic lines.
“These so-called assembly members have condoned the reign of terror and oppression unleashed by armed forces in Kashmir by supporting the draconian and black laws giving impunity to armed forces,†he said.
“Pro-India parties tell people at the time of elections that they will provide them bijli, sadak and pani while the Kashmir issue would be resolved by the pro-freedom leadership. But then they take decisions in Assembly, which are against the interests of Kashmiris and meant to usurp our rights. They want to create regional imbalance and divide people into Shias, Sunnis, Paharis, Gujjars, etc so that the world can be told that people who speak of azadi are a minority, confined to some districts while the majority want only so-called development and progress,†he said.
“We will have to be very careful and watch out for such activities,†Mirwaiz said.
The truth, Mirwaiz said, is that the majority of Jammu and Kashmir is in favour of the pro-freedom movement and “the sentiment is same in Doda, Poonch, Kishtwar and Chenab Valley.â€
Mirwaiz said Kashmir was the only international dispute which remained unresolved even after 63 years and India was not fulfilling the promises made to Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz also flayed the continued detention of youth and random arrests. “Youth are arrested on the charges of taking part in 2008, 2009 and 2010 protests. The fact is that the entire Kashmiri nation was on the streets and this government should arrest all of us for the crime of protesting against oppression,†he said, demanding immediate release of youth and political leaders.
Mirwaiz also condemned the use of force at Maisuma against JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik.
