Srinagar: Expressing concern over growing immorality and other social evils in the society, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Thursday pitched for introduction of “moral education†in educational institutions.  Mirwaiz called for joint efforts to tackle what he termed the growing moral waywardness, drug abuse, declining female sex ratio and other social evils. “It’s the responsibility of every one of us to work for inculcating Islamic values among our society. Just as the government has made Kashmiri language a compulsory subject in schools, introducing moral education in the curriculum is the need of the hour,†he said at a seminar titled “Growing immorality among the young generation and countermeasuresâ€. The seminar held at Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal here was organised by Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam as part of the ‘martyrdom week’ being observed to commemorate the death anniversaries of slain Hurriyat leaders, Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone. “We must shun the attitude of blaming America, Europe and Western civilization and try to rectify the morass of moral waywardness through Islamic teachings. By ignoring the teachings of Holy Quran and the Prophet (SAW), neither can we succeed in worldly affairs nor in the life hereafter. We must implement Islamic teachings in our day to day affairs of life, that’s the only way out,†he said.Mirwaiz said although there was an “onslaught†of materialism, western culture, internet, mobile, and other technology, “we can use these to our advantage because everything has negative and positive aspect to it.â€He said parents, Islamic scholars and clerics, journalists, civil society members must come forward and play their part in promoting moral values.  “Moral education must begin from the home and parents can play a pivotal role in this, by concentrating as much on the moral education of their children as they do on their school education,†he said.Besides, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who presided over the seminar, several scholars, intellectuals and students from various educational institutions, including Green Valley Educational  Institute, R.P School Malabagh,  Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal, Burn Hall School, SSM Higher Secondary School, participated in the seminar, a spokesman of the amalgam said. “R.P.
