Srinagar: Paying glowing tributes to Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday called for a complete shutdown on May 21 to mark their death anniversaries.
Addressing a Friday gathering at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said the two leaders like thousands of others had sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and “it is now up to us to take these sacrifices to a logical end.”
“The sacrifices of the martyrs won’t be allowed to go waste,” he said.
Announcing the weeklong programme of martyrdom week, Mirwaiz said on May 17 special prayers and Quran Khawani will be offered for the slain leaders at the amalgam’s central office and all district headquarters while a Mehfil-e-Husn-e-Qirat will be held on the day at Jamia Masjid.
On May 18 and 19, the amalgam will hold seminars at its Rajbagh headquarters and Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal. On May 20, a blood donation and free medical camp will be held in the premises of Jamia Masjid while a rally will be taken out from the Awami Majlis Amal headquarters after Friday prayers on the day, he said.
Calling for a complete shutdown on May 21, Mirwaiz appealed people to march towards Eidgah on the day where a gathering will be held to observe the death anniversaries of Moulvi Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone.
