SRINAGAR: The Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir inaugurated 23rd Road Safety Week organized by Traffic Police City, Srinagar today. The theme for current years Traffic Week is “Accidents Brings Tears, Safety Brings Cheersâ€.
The inaugural function was attended by DIG Traffic, Range Kashmir, Mr. Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan, Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Mr. Anees Ahmad Khan, S.P Traffic City, Srinagar, Mr. Haseeb-ur-Rehman, S.P Traffic Rural Kashmir, Mr. Shah Din Malik, other senior officers and other sections of the society.
Addressing the inaugural function, the Minister urged the traffic authorities to create awareness among new generation regarding traffic rules and regulations from primary to graduate level so they turn out better and sensitive road users.
Mr. Mir urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, R&B and Traffic authorities to work in close coordination to ensure better traffic system in Srinagar.
S.P. Traffic in his address said that Traffic department has ordered reservation of 8 seats in all passenger buses. He said that parking of vehicles would be allowed on available parking slots only. He urged upon the media to play its role in creating awareness regarding traffic rules among the masses.
RTO Kashmir, Mr. Anees Ahmad in his address said that in the current fiscal the department has earned Rs. 25 lakhs as licence fee, besides distributing Rs. 16 lakh as compensation among the kith and kin of four persons who succumbed to road accidents.
He further said during the next financial year, the department has set up a target of Rs. 1.50 crore to be collected as licence fee. He said that the department is computerizing all its district offices.
In Budgam district, 23rd Road Safety Week was also inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner, Dr. Shah Faisal. Assistant Road Transport Officer, Budgam, Mr. Mohammad Arif was also present on the occasion.
Similar function was organized in Anantnag district. The S.P. Traffic, Anantnag, Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Bhat urged the people to strictly adhere to traffic rules to ensure their safety. (KMW News)
