Srinagar: Militants struck in broad day light in Srinagar city on Monday morning killing Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on spot and injuring another jawan critically. Militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen claimed the responsibility of the attack saying that it was carried out in response to Shopian killings and ‘oppressive’ measures adopted by police towards youth of Kashmir.
Police sources told that two CISF jawans appeared near Naaz Cinema in a security vehicle for purchasing some eatables. Eyewitnesses told CNS that duo came out from the security vehicle without carrying weapons. As they approached towards a nearby shop, militants appeared before them and shot them at point blank range,†they said adding that market was abuzz with activity when incident occurred.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Syed Aashiq Hussain Bukhari told reporters on the spot of crime that militants used silencer pistol and after carrying the attack fled from the spot. “It is not clear how many militants were part of the attack. One jawan was killed while another was injured in the attack,†he said.
The deceased CISF jawan was identified as D.Naik while the jawan injured in the attack Mukesh Kumar was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Soon after the attack, top police and CRPF officials reached on spot while police cordoned the area to flush out the militants. However, no one was arrested during the operation.
Pertinently, the CISF provides security cover to industrial units and other establishments located all over India. It also provides consultancy services to private industries as well as other organization. Lat time CISF was in news when its personnel allegedly killed a youth Altaf Ahmed in Boniyar area of Uri tehsil in January 2011.
Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujhadeen while claiming the responsibility of the attack said that such attacks would be carried in future as well. A caller claiming to be the Operation Spokesperson of Hizb, Baleeg-u-Din told CNS on phone that its special squad carried attack on Indian security personnel in response to Shopian killings.
“Today’s attack was carried out in response of recent Shopian killings and ‘oppressive’ measures adopted by police towards youth of Kashmir,†Baleeg-u-Din said. (CNS)
