Militants desperate to strike in Srinagar

Srinagar: Admitting that Srinagar is the soft target of militants, Director General of Police Ashok Prasad Sunday said they have inputs that militants can strike anytime anywhere in Srinagar.
“Srinagar gives the militants publicity. If they throw a grenade in Bijbehara, no one takes them seriously, once they strike in Srinagar, they are able to draw the attention of the whole world,” Prasad told Srinagar based news agency  adding that security was beefed up in Srinagar after receiving the inputs that militants are going to strike in Srinagar anytime.
DGP said that the main motive of militants is to strike in Srianar to gain publicity and nothing else. “Militants want to strike in Srinagar to gain publicity. Nobody comes to know about them when they strike in far flung area that’s why they are desperate to strike in Srinagar to give an impression to people that militancy still exists in Valley,” he said.
Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad told that militant strikes in Srinagar are not new. “We have inputs that there is possibility of terror attack in Srinagar so to avert any mis-happening we beefed up the security,” he said.
He further said that Jammu and Kashmir police had taken up the case of Liyaket Ali Shah with Delhi police. “We are in constant touch with Delhi Police and details are being exchanged in this regard,” he said.
When asked why separatist leaders are not being allowed to propagate their ideas and are being either put under house arrest or detained in different jails, Prasad said that Geelani has not been detained but he is in his house. “As a precautionary measure sometimes, police has to take certain measures to maintain peace and order,” Prasad said.
