Srinagar: Two days ahead of the R-Day, militants Monday attacked a joint check-post by police and paramilitary CRPF in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district but there were no casualties.
Official sources told a group of three militants fired indiscriminately at the police and 179 CRPF check-post near Ashpeer Chankhan area in the town at around 1730 hours evening.
They said that the uniformed men took position and fired back but there were no reports of any casualty during the firing that lasted for several minutes. The militants were believed to have managed to flee, they said.
The firing created panic and people moved helter-skater for cover. The traffic through the area was also disturbed, they said.
Later, reinforcements of police, CRPF and 22 Rashtriya Rifles were rushed to seal off the entire area.
However, when reports last came in, no arrests were made.
