Srinagar: One unidentified militant on Monday was killed in an encounter with Army in Bangus Valley of Nowgam sector in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, sources told Press Bureau of India Monday.
They said Army’s 30 Rashtriya Rifles and 1 Naga yesterday afternoon had cordoned off a vast area of densely forested Bangus Valley of Nowgam sector of Handwara in the frontier district following reports that a group of heavily armed militants have sneaked into the area from the other side of the Line of Control (LoC).
This evening, sources said Army was able to establish a contact with the militants. In the ensuing encounter one unidentified militant was killed. The encounter was going on when the last reports came in.
Sources said that the Army conducted intense searches of the densely forested area for the second consecutive day today before the encounter broke out in the evening
“Army has inputs that 3-4 militants have infiltrated into this side of LoC. They want to track down the militants, before they flee towards the populated areas,†sources said.
“A vast area has been sealed off. However, Army has killed one militant so far,†they added.
