Militant killed in brief encounter in Pulwama

Pulwama, Jan 8: A militant was killed in a brief shootout in Chowduri Bagh area of Litter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

A senior Police official said that militants attacked army patrolling party of 52Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army at Chowduri Bagh village of Pulwama.

He said that army retaliated, triggering a brief shootout in which one unidentified militant was killed.

Sources identified the slain militant as Irfan Ahmed Rather son of Azad Ahmed, a resident of Rajpora Littar. The slain militant according to sources who was a post graduate student had joined militant ranks in November 2018.

Reports said that the associate of the slain militant managed to escape from the spot, however, Forces cordoned off the village to track him down, however, they didn’t meet with any success.

Reports said that shortly after the killing of the local militant violent clashes erupted between youth and combined forces.

Reports and eyewitnesses said that Forces used tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesting youth who resorted to stone-pelting. Reports added that proptesters torched an Auto-mobile that was passing through the road during clashes. A police official said that they have registered a case and investigation has been taken up.
