Jammu: A militant along with his wife and three kids was arrested by the police after he reached the bordering Poonch district from Pakistan via Nepal route, official sources here today said.
The militant from Surankote area of district Poonch, who had gone across to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in 1999 was arrested last evening at Bhimber Gali when he, yesterday along with his wife and three children, was returning to his native village.
“The militant identified as Sarfaraz Ahmed, 34, resident of village Hari Safeda, Surankote and his Pakistan based wife Shaheen Akhter were arrested yesterday alongwith children Mujtaba, Tabinda, and Arshad, all between 2 to 7 year age group,” official sources this morning told.
They said that the family was travelling in a vehicle UP028Q-123 when they were intercepted at Bhimber Gali.
During investigations it was found that Sarfaraz had crossed over to PoK in 1999 for arms training on being motivated by the Hizb-ul-Islami and returned in 2001 but again went back in 2002.
“He escaped from the training camps and married a girl Shaheen Akhter in 2004,” they said adding that he had three children and was working in a local shop.
Sarfaraz’s family in Poonch wanted him to return to his ancestral village as they had also registered his name with police for return from PoK under the Rehabilitation Policy of the State Government.
“Sarfaraz managed the passport and visa and flew to Kathmandu from Karachi and entered into India via Gorakhpur on Nepal-Uttar Pradesh border,” they added.
He boarded a taxi and was on way to his residence at village Hari Safeda in Surankote when apprehended by the police.
