Srinagar: Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, was celebrated throughout the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region with full reverence, devotion, religious fervour and gaiety today.
Despite severe cold due to snowfall, night-long special prayers were held in mosques, khankhas, Jamia Masjids and other shrines in the Valley and Ladakh region.
However, the main function was held at Hazratbal shrine, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Mohammad, on the bank of famed Dal Lake.
The authorities had made all arrangements for the devotees visiting the Hazratbal shrine, where thousands of people participated in the prayers despite snowfall and cold.
The devotees had the glimpse of Holy Relic after the morning prayers this morning and this process will continue after every prayer today.
Similar prayers were also held at Shahari Kalashpora shrine, Jenab Sahib Soura, Khiram Srihama and Panjoora Shopian.
Religious scholars, ulmas, separatist leaders and mainstream politicians have greeted people on the occasion.
