Martys’ Day: Er. Hilal War Put under House Arrest

Srinagar, May 21(KMW): J & K Police today put senior leader All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman Engineer Hilal Ahmad War under house arrest. A police contingent from Police Station Maisuma arrived at War’s residence in the wee hours and informed him that he was under house arrest.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) organizes Hafta-e-shuhda (martyrs’ week), every year that concludes on May 21, the day two senior resistance leaders Mirwaiz Moulana Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone were assassinated in 1990 and 2002 respectively.
Condemning Gov’t decision of not allowing the Hurriyat leadership to pay tribute to late Mirwaiz, Lone and other martyrs, War said such tactics won’t deter the leadership from carrying on with the mission of the martyrs.
APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other leaders have also been put under house arrest. Despite Mirwaiz’s assurance that the tribute function would be peaceful, the administration didn’t grant any permission.
