Mamata dedicates TMC’s student wing foundation day to murdered doctor

Kolkata, Aug 28 West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dedicated the Trinamool Congress youth wing’s foundation day on Wednesday to the memory of the woman doctor of state-owned R G Kar Medical College & Hospital who was murdered in the institution on August 9.

“Today I dedicate Trinamool Chhatra Parishad foundation day to our sister, whom we lost tragically at the RG Kar hospital some days ago,” Bengal CM posted this on her X handle in morning on the occasion of party’s student wing foundation day.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family of the sister who was brutally tortured to death and seeking speedy justice, as well as to all the women of all ages across the country, who have been subjected to such inhumane acts. Sorry,” Banerjee’s post said.

She said since students and youths have a greater social role to play in keeping the society awake.

“The students, youth have a greater social role, it is the task of student society to give the dream of a new day by keeping the society and culture awake and to inspire everyone around with the bright vows of a new day.

“My appeal to all of them today, be encouraged in this effort, stay committed. My dear students, stay well, stay healthy, stay committed to a bright future,” Banerjee concluded.

“Our hearts swell with pride as we commemorate the 27th Foundation Day of WBTMCP,” an AITC message said.

Banerjee’s message came on a day when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called a 12-hour West Bengal bandh to demand justice for the murdered woman doctor. The agitation saw violence and clashes between BJP and TMC workers at several places in the state.

On Tuesday, the city and neighbouring Howrah district witnessed massive protests for nearly six hours following the West Bengal Chhatra Samaj and Sangrami Joutha Morcha called Nabanna Avijan or march to the Secretariat demanding justice for the medic murder and resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Over 150 protesters were arrested and nearly 150 people received injuries, including 14 police personnel, in scuffles, lathi charge, tear gas shelling and use of water cannons by the police and pelting of stones by the protesters.
