Srinagar, May 22: Sumo drivers in Srinagar’s Exchange Road and adjoining areas are flouting rules, causing chaos and confusion. Despite designated stands, they pick up passengers arbitrarily, disrupting traffic and pedestrian movement. This behavior is particularly problematic on Exchange Road, a security-sensitive area.
In this regard, while talking to Kashmir Media Watch, Madina Passenger Transport Service Stand Spokesperson observed that they have already talked to higher authorities in traffic department to initiate exemplary and tough against any sumo driver plying in wayward manner using iron fist of law.
As a matter of fact, due to this the situation is dire, with massive traffic congestion and disruption of vehicle and pedestrian flow on Exchange Road and Veterinary Road. Pedestrians face immense difficulties navigating the area due to sudden stops and starts, putting lives at risk. Local shopkeepers are suffering significant losses due to congestion and disorderly parking, with many finding it challenging to run their businesses.
“We are finding it challenging to run our businesses due to the chaos caused by these Sumo drivers,” said a local shopkeeper. “We urge the authorities to take immediate action to restore order and sanity to the area.” Authorities are being requested to enforce designated pick-up and drop-off points for Sumos, reduce congestion and chaos, and impose penalties on errant drivers, including fines and suspension of licenses.
Swift intervention is needed to restore order to the area, with commuters and business owners hoping for prompt action from the authorities to address the situation and prevent further deterioration.
Madina Passenger Service Stand has made its stand clear by calling authorities to punish every erring driver
