Srinagar: Life returned to normal in the Kashmir valley after general strike, called by moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) on the 21st death anniversary of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq yesterday.
Authorities imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPC in the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) to prevent HC rally and also laying foundation of martyrs memorial at Eidgah.
Shops and business establishments, which remained open on Sundays, were functioning normally and traffic on all routes was plying.
However, the main attraction was about three-km-long Sunday market from Radio Kashmir crossing to Jehangir chowk.
Hundreds of vendors had put up their stall, attracting thousands of customers from all parts of the Kashmir valley.
Reports of normalcy has also been received from other district and tehsil headquarters.
Barring a clash between separatist demonstrators and security forces at few places in the down town last night, the general strike remained peaceful. Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators.
