Srinagar: Fresh snowfall was experienced at Leh forcing authorities to cancel all incoming and outgoing flights today while people in the Kashmir valley continued to face cold weather woing to rains and icy cold winds.
Leh town, adjoining areas and all heights in Ladakh region experienced fresh snowfall since last night, resulting in drop in the temperature.
The roof tops, electric poles and trees had turned white as people woke up this morning.
Snowfall continued till 0830 hrs this morning which was followed by rains, an official of state information department told UNI over phone from Leh.
He said now sun appeared from behind the clouds and snow had melted.
However, he said, all incoming and outgoing flights, which were normally operating in the morning, were cancelled due to snowfall and poor visibility.
He said road communication was not affected by snowfall as vehicles were plying on all routes normally.
A Met department spokesman said here that the minimum temperature at Leh was recorded 0.8 degree, which was several degree below normal.
Border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway, which was put through recently after remaining closed for more than five months, recorded 2.8 degrees minimum temperature this morning.
He said the weather remained dry at Kargil and nearby Drass, the worlds second coldest place after Siberia. (UNI)
